a. The methods of scanning Scanlily QRs

Scanlily QRs let you

a1. Scan a QR using the app's Scan button

This fast approach is useful when scanning multiple Scanlily QRs. Open the app and click on the Scan icon at the top right of every screen.

If you scan a QR code that is assigned to an item, the app will pull up the pertinent Item Page. You can then view, add and edit the item information.

If you scan a Scanlily QR code that is not yet assigned to an item, the app will pull up a new, blank Item Page. Here, you can fill in the item details (name, description, Item Type, etc). Proprietary (non-Scanlily) QRs and barcodes must be added manually as per Section a below.

a2. Scan the QR with the phone's camera with the app installed

Scanlily QRs can be scanned with your phone’s camera. If you have the proper user access (linked), you can add and edit the item. It takes a moment longer to complete a scan than it does with the app, but this can be more convenient because you don’t have to open the app first.

a3. Scan without the app!

Scanning QRs without the app being installed or logged in is one of the system's most powerful time-saving features of Scanlily. Unlike most other asset and inventory management systems, the QR is not just a simple character string but is a URL. Therefore, someone without the app can scan and bring the item up in the phone’s web browser.

Web browser view is view-only. To change anything about your inventory, log in via the app or the web system.

Read more about the possibilities here.

a4. Scan with a barcode reader

Scanlily has integrated barcode scanning.  Attach a bluetooth barcode scanner to your android device and have full scanning capabilities via SPP mode.  Attaching a barcode scanner to an iOS device works as well but using HID mode.

b. Adding and Scanning Proprietary QRs and barcodes

You must have a  non-Free account to add your own proprietary barcodes or QRs.

Unlike Scanlily QRs, you cannot add your proprietary barcodes or QRs (non-Scanlily) via the upper right scan button.

To add a proprietary barcode or QR, go to the Item Page and click on the QR symbol next to the ID field.

Alternatively, type the barcode into the ID field area where it states Undefined because it’s not yet defined:

Note that nothing prevents adding duplicate proprietary barcodes or QRs.

Pulling up a previously-added proprietary barcode or QR

To pull up proprietary QRs or barcodes, Scan using the upper-right scan button just like you do with Scanlily QRs. If the barcode has been added to the system under your account, it will be pulled up. If you have multiple items with the same barcode or QR, you can choose from a list of them.
